‘Ross the Cat’ has quickly become a firm family favourite. Sales of this delightful book celebrating the local famous feline who hangs out at Taranaki’s Pukekura Park generated a $4000 donation to the SPCA in addition to hundreds of dollars of pet food supplies. A beautiful letter from the SPCA CEO sums up the difference one little story can make:
“Wow, $4000! What an incredible gift to the animals of Taranaki SPCA. You’ve taken a little rescue cat’s story and turned it into something extraordinary: a book that captures hearts, inspires kindness and changes lives in a very real way. Ross the Cat isn’t just a tale for children - it’s now part of the story of the countless animals who will find safety, warmth and love because of you. This isn’t just a donation - it’s a gift wrapped in hope and tied with compassion, and it will make a tangible difference to our work every single day.”
Thanks to Creative Communities funding, the book also generated a cast of stars as local children retold the story on film. Shot on location in Pukekura Park and featuring Ross the Cat himself, this charming tale was brought to life on screen. And there was even a red-carpet premiere at Govett Brewster Museum.
